Towler Life

What better way to spend a rainy new years day than to head to Home Depot and grab a few things to keep us busy for a while...

Right before Christmas break we did a guest room closet overhaul finding tons of old clothes and accessories to donate to the AADD.  Getting rid of so much stuff allowed us to consolidate clothes into one dresser and trash an old flea market chest of drawers from my college days-  but not without salvaging one drawer that I wanted to repurpose.

Here you see the lone drawer, retro hardware and all-

We removed the hardware and put our new sander to work, removing the varnish on the face of the drawer-

Then I gave the face a coat of Porpoise (leftover from painting the guest room) and topped it with a coat of Tate Olive (getting a lot of use out of that bathroom sample!).  The other sides of the drawer got a coat of stain that worked wonders on the old wood.  Then we added casters, new hardware, and voila!

A shabby (chic) blanket holder for our den-

My mom came across an old picture frame a while back that she thought we would enjoy being crafty with.  We came home from Christmas day with it and I was anxious to start its transformation-

All it needed was a little poultry wire stapled to the back and it's ready to be rehung on the wall.  Now we just need to figure out where to hang it and what we want it to showcase...

I'd say 2013 is off to a busy and inspired start!  Now it's time to tend to my collard greens... Happy New Year!
